American Armed Forces Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
According to a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Prior Actions
The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military presence.
Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Actions Amid Pressure
The administration has encountered growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official seemed to suggest a wider geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the military campaign may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
